982. Curaçao’s Donkey Dance

Gangnam Style’s predecessor and a huge hit in the 90s, we grew up dancing to this fun, crazy song. Lining up at carnival, jump ups, and dance parties, obediently following Happy Peanuts’ cheeky instructions, huge smile on, completely oblivious… Or where we?!

Chorus (Papiamentu):

Moketanan huntu
Hiz’e kokoti
Rudianan huntu
Awo, dobla bo lomba, dobla bo lomba
Tur hende ta kla pa kore buriku?
1-2-3 kore buriku, kore, kore 3x
Kore buriku, kore, kore 3x
Awo, laga e hende muhenan so para dilanti
Y sute buriko, suta, suta

Translation:
Fists together
Elbows raised
Knees together
Bend over, bend over
Ready to ride the donkey?!
1-2-3 ride the donkey, ride it, ride it 3x
Ride the donkey, ride it, ride it 3x

Now, all the ladies to the front (men line up behind the ladies)
Spank the donkey, spank it, spank it / Spank the donkey, spank it, spank it

And then, for the Dutch: “skaaaatje, laten we even lekker gaan ezelen!” (I’m a staunch feminist and a ‘donkey with juicy legs’, but I love mi some Kareda di Buriku! 🙂
