On the crossing of Caracasbaaiweg (Caracas Beach Street) and Schubappelweg, across the street from Vreugdenhil Supermarket, next to Caribbean Nautical, lies the very best arepa stand on the island. Unnamed (yet), friendly Liliana and Sol from Colombia only speak Spanish, “Si quieres lo puedes llamar: ‘Arepitas Deliciosas’!” Open every day from 8:30 am – 7:30 pm Monday – Saturday and 9 am – 3:30 pm on Sunday. Made from scratch daily, who needs a burrito, panino, stuffed pita, broodje this or that, when you can bite into this crispy-on-the outside, steamy-soft-on-the-inside, corn-flour goodness?!
Fair game for breakfast, lunch or dinner, just fill your arepa pocket wisely: choose from aguacate (avocado), huevos pericos (Colombian-style scrambled eggs with tomato and scallion sauce), verduras mixtas (mixed veggies), chorizo (Spanish sausage) to name a few. Best part: you’re guaranteed to spend less than $5 on a hearty, delicious, relatively healthy meal.
Liliana and Sol also make papas rellenas (croquettes filled with a hard boiled egg), empanadas and cachapas (arepas de choclo). Maybe complete your meal with one of their refreshing batidos (fruit smoothies)… Don’t miss their mispel and sorsaka (soursop) flavors!
Ps: lines tend to get long, call Liliana and Sol to place your order: 461-1300.
