775. Norman’s

Nestled right next to our Caracasbaai fishing docks (facing Spanish Waters), Norman’s is a snack bar / shack conveniently accessible by boat and car. No official sign outside, you can’t miss the ‘Curaçao Tourist Information’ post out front. Sailors from around the world have been meeting up at Norman’s for years, to enjoy cold beers and delicious, reasonably priced krioyo-style locally-sourced fish, often caught by Caracasbaai fishermen. Norman arranges for them to take communal buses to a nearby grocery store (Vreugdenhil) to stock up their kitchens, so they keep coming back for more.

And locals are catching on too. Friday’s Happy Hour is super gezellig (heh-SELL-ick), with live music and hopi ambiente, but get there early it tends to get chòk chòk…!

The place and people are completely laid-back, just go there and relax, and if you’re lucky, Norman or his wife might even join you for beers and a bite! The sòpi piská (fish soup, catch of the day), conch, piská mulá (dradu), balchi piská, piská korá (red snapper) are all favorites. Main dishes come with a side of french fries or rice, funchi or salad, and banana hasá (fried plantain).
Tip: ask for funchi hasá… masha dushi mes!
Norman’s is open Tuesday – Sunday for lunch and dinner, closed on Mondays.
