I’m delighted to announce that as of March 1, 2013 1000 Awesome Things About Curaçao is a daily column in the newly launched newspaper, Amigoe Express (print and soon-to-be online). A first of its kind — “the 20-page full color morning paper will be distributed to tourists free of charge at hotels and other accommodations.” The paper includes local as well as international news from the Netherlands (in Dutch), South America (in Spanish) and the U.S. (in English).
This partnership is particularly special to me because my very first ‘real’ summer internship was at Amigoe nearly 12 years ago. I inadvertently interviewed for the position on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao. Fortunately KLM seated me next to (then) Managing Director of Amigoe, Ingrid de Maaijer. Ingrid and I bonded right away and chatted for 9 hours straight.
That summer I helped launch Amigoe’s (abridged) online newspaper in English, until then all of their local news was in Dutch. I got my first taste of business, publishing, online media… and a strong, creative, incredibly vivacious female leader who ‘leans in’ all the way.
The rest is history! 🙂
