743. Curaçao’s Pallet Board Soccer Arena

Gino Costino and 10 other enterprising teenage boys, the “Hollywood Muiz” crew, from the neighborhoods of Muizenberg and St. Jacobs decided to take matters into their own hands when they found their beloved neighborhood soccer field deteriorating; its unruly condition hindering their playing.

They kicked things off by clearing the overgrown weeds in their spare time. But they didn’t stop there.  They also built a tall fence around the field, several bleachers with plenty of seats for spectators and players, a bridge for easy ditch crossing, and a bench by the nearest bus stop… all by up-cycling (free) pallet boards!

Needless to say, we’re very proud of the awesome “Hollywood Muiz” crew! Francine O’Connor from CUNACO (#779) gives them two thumbs up for their environmental ingenuity — she even paid them a visit this past Saturday, caught a glimpse of their soccer game, and joined their weekly meeting. Thank you so much for the photos, Francine! We can’t wait to hear more about this awesome initiative.

So… what would you do if you had access to a few of these?
