613. Curaçao’s Obsession with Dutch Royalty

King Willem-Alexander and his more glamorous half, Queen Máxima, visited the Dutch Caribbean islands for the first time as ‘official’ monarchs this past week. The King was inaugurated on April 30, 2013 and promised to continue his mother’s course, stressing the need to respect diversity. (“however varied our backgrounds, in the Kingdom of the Netherlands everyone can have a voice and can contribute to society on equal footing.”) Judging by my Facebook News Feed’s 24/7 ‘Royal Watch’ the Royals have stolen some of Sinterklaas’ thunder
