813. Curaçao’s Live Nativity Scene

We stumbled upon the most awesome pesebre (nativity scene) we’d ever seen last night with live goats, geese, sheep, a chicken and hen!!! No seriously. Naturally we had to stop and get the full story from its creator, Fabian Martina, who was busy feeding the animals who are on loan from a friend through January 6, 2013.

Fabian’s pesebre is constructed from a large wad of colored construction paper that resemble boulders, a TV stand, and potted local plants (milón di seru, vines, aloe, etc). Evidently it’s a long-standing tradition for him… but the animals are a 2012 addition! (Miraculously they don’t wake him up at night 🙂

Fabian’s entire yard is a tropical Christmas wonderland that brings holiday cheer and quirk to the entire neighborhood of Montanja while simultaneously raising money for community development! Visit this amazing pesebre [first left when you hit the Montanja soccer field] through January 6, 2013 and support this wonderful emerging neighborhood.
