795. Ride for the Roses

Held annually ‘Ride for the Roses’ represents our island’s collective fight against cancer; our way of joining forces, sweating up a storm, and enjoying our beautiful island all while raising money for our Prinses Wilhelmina Fonds.

This year over 5,000 (3.5% of Curacao’s population!!!) gathered for the 7 am 10K ‘Walk’ starting at Brionplein in Otrobanda ending at Wet & Wild.

Big time athletes could participate in the ‘Ride’ (8 am at Wet & Wild), choosing between 10/40/60 km routes. 60 km: Wet & Wild, Rooi Santu, Fuik, Montana, St Catharina, Abrahamz, Brievengat, Gosieweg, Suffisant, Seroe Fortunaweg, Hato, Rotonde Zegu, Julianadorp, Rotonde Piscadera, Otrobanda, Pontjesbrug, Punda, Penstraat, Wet N’ Wild.

‘Swimmers’ plunged into the water at 12:00 at Zanzibar, briskly making their way to Wet N’ Wild (approx. 3 km)

All are encouraged to dedicate their efforts to loved ones who have battled or are battling cancer. No one competes against each other. Everyone receives a symbolic rose upon completing their journey.

Special thanks to ORCO bank and all the other sponsors and volunteers for making Ride for the Roses 2013 a HUGE success!!!
