My close friend and frequent blog contributor, Aftan Schoonen, was kind enough to send this blog to her colleagues at the International School of Curaçao last year. Soon after two awesome fifth grade teachers, Mr. Kummins and Ms. Kay, decided to hop on the ‘Awesome Curaçao’ bandwagon, asking their students to share their favorite things about Curaçao in class… and they’re repeating the exercise this year as part of ‘Siman di Kultura’ (Culture Week)!
(As you may have guessed by now,) Neil Pasricha’s insanely popular, award-winning blog 1000 Awesome Things serves as inspiration for this one. Pasricha has highlighted a very simple framework (‘3 A’s of Awesome’) for living an awesome life:
1) Attitude: make a choice to choose to focus on what is going well… the idea here is that so much is out of our control, but how we respond to what happens to us isn’t.
2) Awareness: go through life like a 3 year-old.. but if that’s too ‘meta’, let your 3 year-old self notice the wonder of the world.
3) Authenticity: be who you are, do what you love, let your heart lead you…
… because there’s so much awesome stuff around, but we only get a certain amount of time to enjoy it.
Needless to say, kids tend to notice the darnest, most awesome things… and a little birdy told me that popular Curaçao-based media personalities Ruckly Ettienne and Scarlet Zalm are kid-sourcing ‘Awesome Curaçao’ in their Jolly Zone Curaçao program on TeleCuraçao FM… so tune in Saturdays 8-10 am on TCFM 93.3 or TV Channel 26.
Hopi AWESOME mes, mes.
