Born in Curaçao and raised in St. Eustatius, Shirma Rouse grew up around music and recalls singing in church with her grandmother from a very young age. Shirma was formally introduced to the Dutch music scene as back-up vocalist for Tasha’s World in the late 1990s. She went on to perform, record and tour with a variety of artists spanning a wide range of musical genres: Chaka Khan, Micheal Bolton, Metropole Orkest, Intwine, Extince, Wouter Hamel, Candy Dulfer, Alain Clark, Anouk, Glennis Grace, Izaline Calister, Randal Corsen, Tribute 2 Bob Marley, Carlo de Wijs. (source) Shirma decided to embark on her solo career with the release of her jazzy, bluesy, funky, soul album Chocolate Coated Dreams (2010) and Shirma Rouse sings Aretha (2012). Shirma is currently a semi-finalist on The Voice of Holland… and we’re all rooting for her to take home the trophy!
