An eleventh hour replacement for Usher in an already incredible, once-in-a-lifetime Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival 2013 line-up (Diana Ross! Gladys Knight! Toto! Marc Anthony! Erykah Badu! Toto! Luis Miguel! Esperanza Spalding! The Roots!), Prince – who has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career – was scheduled to perform for an hour around midnight on Saturday, August 31, capping the two-day festival.
Curaçao was all purple
There were people runnin’ everywhere
‘Cause they say two thousand zero zero
Party over, oops out of time
Curaçao was partying like it’s 1999…
Prince was having so much fun on stage that they kept coming back for encores… extending their concert to TWO AND A HALF HOURS…
According to Gregory Elias, Founder of Fundashon Bon Intenshon, sole sponsor and organizer of Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival, “Prince is notorious for giving encores when he likes the atmosphere. His contract had him performing for an hour and fifteen minutes, but he found it necessary to do more than two hours. This is rare. [In 2012] Carlos Santana also gave an encore. I can say that it is not by chance.” (Source)
